“I’ve Got the Winning Number: Rejoicing in Hard Times”

Scripture Focus: Philippians 4:4 – “Rejoice in the Lord always; and again I say, Rejoice.”

Rejoice Like You’ve Got the Winning Number

At Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church of Kalamazoo, we believe that real joy is not tied to circumstances—it’s rooted in a relationship with God. In this message, Pastor Steven T. Morrow reminds us that even when life feels like it’s falling apart, we can rejoice because of who God is and what He has promised.

“Paul said: Rejoice in the Lord always. And again I say, Rejoice!”

Paul wrote those words while in prison. His situation looked hopeless, but his spirit was full of joy. Why? Because his joy wasn’t based on freedom, comfort, or material gain—it was based on his unshakable relationship with God.

The Winning Number of Joy

Pastor Morrow paints a powerful picture: rejoicing in the Lord is like holding the winning lottery number.

  • You could lose everything today, but tomorrow, you still have the number.

  • You could face trials, setbacks, or financial struggles, but you still have the number.

  • The “number” is your faith in Christ—the assurance that no matter what happens, God is with you, God is for you, and God will never fail you.

That’s why we can say, “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.” (Psalm 30:5).

Two Levels of Rejoicing

From Philippians 4:4, Pastor Morrow unpacks the two rejoices Paul teaches us:

  1. The First Rejoice – You rejoice because you have a relationship with God. You know Him, you walk with Him, and He walks with you. That’s the winning number!

  2. The Second Rejoice – You rejoice because God is near. He’s not distant. He’s with you in your trouble, your pain, your waiting, and your healing. That presence makes rejoicing possible in every season.

Why This Matters

At Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church of Kalamazoo, we know life gets hard. Families struggle. Finances get tight. Health fails. Relationships break. But there is one unshakable truth:

πŸ‘‰ If you have God, you already have the winning number.

You don’t have to chase after the world’s lottery. Your victory, your peace, your joy—it’s already

Takeaway

The next time life feels overwhelming, remember this:

  • Joy is not about what’s happening around you.

  • Joy is about who is living within you.

  • You can rejoice today, tomorrow, and forever—because with God, you’ve already got the winning number.
